The Sandra Cheal School of Dancing has been part of Coggeshall for over 50 years. It was opened 1972 by Sheila Leach who started with a handful of students and built up over the years becoming the renowned dance school at the Village Hall in Coggeshall.
The school was taken over by Sarah in 2020 when Sheila retired. We have carried on the tradition of the biennial show at the Honywood School as well as introducing our Summer Dance Recital for friends and families, on alternate years.
We have been so fortunate to have so many students join us over the years – we have had students go on to study dance at specialised dance conservatoires and colleges around the country, including the Hammond School of Dance in Chester and De Montfort in Leicester. We are also now teaching the children of previous students, who themselves had parents involved with the school, including our wonderful teachers.

My daughter started at 3 years of age at Sandra Cheal School of Dance, she will be finishing at the end of this term when she leaves for University. She has had a fantastic time. When at 10 years she wanted to do horse riding lessons, we said OK but she would have to give up all her other clubs (we couldn’t afford horse riding too). She said she couldn’t give up dance! Can’t add more to that.
Thank you both for all your teaching and guidance. I have particularly loved the way you have done the dance shows. The in-the-round format works so much better than the stage (in my opinion). They have been lovely.

Just to say, Friday night was amazing, we loved the show. She did so well, we were proud of her getting up there and performing her dance routines. By the time it was her ballet dance, she had more confidence and we were so happy to see her enjoying it. The songs, outfits and choreography were beautiful to watch. Thank you to you and Nick for all your hard work.
I just wanted to say a huge well done and thank you for all the hard work you put into the show last night. The girls were so excited and rightly proud of themselves when they came out to us afterwards, and had enjoyed the whole evening so much. We were blown away by how well they both did, and by the routines of all the classes…. you all work so hard. I also really appreciate that you take on all the responsibility of their costumes, which looked fantastic, but absolutely didn’t detract from the performances themselves.
I can’t wait to sit down with the girls and watch it all again when we get the DVD!
Thank you to you, and all of your team – it was a wonderful evening and the girls were amazing, performing with such flair and confidence – it was a privilege to watch them and my, what work they have all put in over the last few months in perfecting their routines.
It was such a great atmosphere.
I would like to say that the show was just lovely. I really like the floor space rather than the stage. We really enjoyed it.
